Merry Christmas Everyone!

Warning from Santa!

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
With no thought of the dog filling their head.
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Knew he was cold, but didn't care about that.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Figuring the dog was free of his chain and into the trash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Santa Claus - with eyes full of tears.

He unchained the dog, once so lively and quick,
Last year’s Christmas present, now painfully thin and sick.
More rapid than eagles he called the dogs name.
And the dog ran to him, despite all his pain;

"Now, DASHER! now, DANCER! now, PRANCER and VIXEN!
On, COMET! on CUPID! on, DONNER and BLITZEN!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Let's find this dog a home where he'll be loved by all"

I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year,
For Santa Claus had made one thing quite clear,
The gift of a dog is not just for the season,
We had gotten the pup for all the wrong reasons.

In our haste to think of a gift for the kids
There was one important thing that we missed.
A dog should be family, and cared for the same
You don't give a gift, then put it on a chain.

And I heard him exclaim as he rode out with strife,
"You weren't given a gift! You were given a life!"

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

It can't be that hard to use a computer! All I need to do is press a couple of buttons...

Whew! That was a close call!

I heard M talking with her son, Logan on the phone and she was acting kind of funny. She was "oohing" and "ahhing" and I knew something had to be up. Then, I heard her say that she didn't think she wanted a cat and thanked him for asking her. It appears he was given a purebred persian kitten and thought M might like it since she has always had a cat until I came along. He called later to tell her all about the kitten as he brought it home and his family fell in love with the little fluff ball. Later he sent a picture and M fell in love. I am so glad there is about 3000 miles between us. That was a close call!

Good-bye Old Friend

Uga VI, mascot for the Georgia Bulldogs died today of congestive heart failure. He took over the spot eight years ago after his Dad died. He was only one year old at the time.

He will be missed walking up and down the sidelines...

My personal opinion: He is probably happy to be rid of those red and black sweaters! [just one dog to another] Go Dawgs!

Got it!

I found a squeaky mouse in a closet...
M says it used to belong to a cat named Porsche.
I can't believe I'm living with people who like cats!

A Poem from Barbara...

A Dog for Jesus [for Scoutdog]
(Where dogs go when they die)

I wish someone had given Jesus a dog.
As loyal and loving as mine.
To sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
And adore Him for being divine.

As our Lord grew to manhood His faithful dog,
Would have followed Him all through the day.
While He preached to the crowds and made the sick well
And knelt in the garden to pray.
It is sad to remember that Christ went away.
To face death alone and apart.
With no tender dog following close behind,
To comfort its Master's Heart.
And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn,
How happy He would have been,
As His dog kissed His hand and barked it's delight,
For The One who died for all men.

Well, the Lord has a dog now, I just sent Him mine,
The old pal so dear to me.
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone,
Knowing they're in eternity.
Day after day, the whole day through,
Wherever my road inclined,
Four feet said, "Wait, I'm coming with you!"
And trotted along behind.

“Size matters not, ... Look at me. Judge me by size, do you?” -Yoda

Yoda Dog!

[I think I'm in love.]

“Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes."

Want to go for a walk?

I am always up for a walk. There are so many smells and things to see.

Plus, sometimes I get M all to myself.

Purple Monkey Tragedy

My purple monkey [seen in mouth] has been my favorite toy since coming to NY. Sadly, it has lost an ear and even though M keeps sewing it back up I saw her pick up some of its innards and then she told T that it might be time to get rid of the monkey.

What's a dog to do? Sure, I have other toys but none so loved and favored as the little purple monkey of my youth...

Dogs & Sunburns

We all know how much I like to lay in the sun. M calls me a lizard when I do that. I don't know if I should feel insulted or not.

But, did you know that dogs can get sunburned just like people can? Dogs are especially susceptible to sunburn if they have lighter noses and ears or if they have short hair. Bellies on the beach tend to sunburn quickly because of the reflection of the sun from the sand.

Caution should be used when taking us to the beach or allowing us to bask in the sun for too long. Using a light protective clothing [like the stylish shirt I have on in this picture] protects the body from excess sun exposure. A hypoallergenic sunscreen is also effective on the nose and ears.

As much as I love the sun, I realize too much of a good thing can lead to pain. In this case, sunburn pain! Moderation will be my motto this year. Anyone up for a game of beach volleyball? So there's still snow on the ground. One can plan.

Big Dog- no, REALLY big dog!

This is Kava. She is a Great Dane that belongs to Big T and M's son who lives in Florida.

They are all making a big deal out of her recent dog show win but I don't know how I feel about her notoriety. To be perfectly honest with you, she scares me! She is so big. When I visit I have to stay in a little cage for my own protection. I think if I weren't so fast she would make a chew toy out of me.

Sometimes I am a Sneek...

This is me being very quiet in an old stone house in Pennsylvania. It was once a girl's dormitory for a private girl's school. Now it's some big corporate convention center and the rooms are used for executives. Big T had to go there on business and invited M and me to go along.

We had a wonderful trip but I knew something was up when I heard Big T and M whispering about me. It seems that "my kind" was not to be welcomed. Big T and M didn't quite know what to do so they put me down in a very big over sized LL Bean canvas tote that M had and snuck me into the room. They said I had to be very quiet.

They loved the room and M even said she could stay there forever. She slept great but I couldn't sleep because I kept thinking that there must be something strange about a place that didn't like dogs so I pretended during the night I had to go outside. Big T stuffed me down in the bag again. I wondered what all the fuss was about and so I stuck my little head up to see over the top of the bag but I couldn't see anything special at all. Anyway, I trickled a little pee so Big T wouldn't get suspicious and then settled down in the bottom of the bag so I could go back to the room. I slept fine after that.

Winter Blues

I just can't get out of bed. Maybe it is because of all of the snow and now the spring thaw. There is slush and muck everywhere it seems. I hear there is another storm coming this week-end. It is enough to make a dog just want to pull the covers over her head and go back to sleep.

No Man Knows My History

My current family didn't know me as a puppy. Those are memories that belong to some family in Florida who later put me in a shelter.

Barbara Bishop rescued me and took me to her home where I became adored and loved by her husband. I loved living there. I would sit out next to my human while he just relaxed and had a drink and we would survey our little kingdom. I would chase off the annoying lizards that were everywhere along with an occasional squirrel or bird. When he found out he had cancer he made his daughter promise to take me to her house when he died.

So, in February of 2006 I left my sunny home and flew to Upstate New York. I remain, to this day, a Diva Dog.
